I am doing the scheduling for the renovation of the original Portsmouth Naval Hospital Building - Building 1. Construction of the building started in 1827 and was completed in 1833, taking it’s first patients in 1830. It is the Is the oldest continuously running hospital in the Navy.

All surgeries were performed up in the “dome” under windows in the ceiling - because of the use of ether, they would not allow lighting in the O.R. - instead they wheeled the operating table around the dome to follow the natural sunlight through the windows.

The building is said to be haunted.  More photos can be found here.
