This weekend marked the end of a local landmark – The Duck-In, which is located on the beach, overlooking the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay.  The Duck-In has been serving the residents of Virginia Beach with great seafood and good times since 1952.  The building was scheduled to be demolished at one point to make way for new bridges, but was saved when the owner petitioned the city to be able to move the building further north up the beach.

Over the years, it has been remodeled and they added an addition with some great decks and an awesome gazebo complete with full service bar.  It was with the addition of the decks and the gazebo that the Friday Night Beach Party was born.  Every Friday night from April to September, there was an outdoor, after work beach party, with live music and plenty of drinking.  Many of the local companies and associations also used the Beach Club as the venue for their summer parties and get-togethers.  God knows I have been to many functions there.  It was even the location of my 10 year high school reunion.

Unfortunately, nothing can save the building this time.  The building will be demolished to make way for yet another set of un-needed, un-wanted and over-priced condos.  This weekend was the final Beach Party!

The Duck-In has been the backdrop for some great memories for a lot of local Virginia Beach residents, including me, and it is sad to see it go!
