John From Cincinnati

When my friend Dena finds a show on TV that she likes, she becomes dead-set on the fact that it should be your favorite show also. It starts out with her calling you and asking if you saw it, then the phone calls become more frequent, as she calls you every single time the show is on and asks you to drop what you are doing to watch it. When she feels that you are not taking her seriously, she steps it up a notch and calls you several times before the show comes on to remind you that it is coming on, then calls you during it to see if you are watching it, then instant messages you the following day to see if you watched it. You really have to love a friend to put up with this kind of shit on a weekly basis, but that is not the purpose of this post.

She recently fell in love with a show called John from Cincinnati that comes on HBO on Sundays at 9:00PM.

From the creator of Deadwood comes this new “surf noir” drama about a dysfunctional Southern California family galvanized by the sudden arrival of two strangers: a man out for revenge and a boy looking for surfing lessons. In Imperial Beach, California, the dysfunctional Yost family intersects with two new arrivals to the community: a dim-but-wealthy surfing enthusiast and man spurned by the Yosts years ago.

Well. after just 10 episodes, and after the season finale, HBO announced that they are cancelling the series, that I have yet to watch. Dena made me promise her this weekend that I would post about it and ask people to sign the petitions to keep it going, so I am keeping my promise. Please take a second and sign the petition to keep it going.
