A Michael Vick Pitbull

Taken from Stale Betty (because she did such a great job of writing it up) to help spread the word and get people to send their thoughts to the NFL and NIKE!

HE’S NO HERO!

I have a confession to make. When I first heard about the dog-fighting/NFL player story, I purposely avoided seeing, hearing or reading about it. I didn’t want to know anything about it. It makes me angry and upset to think there are people out there who don’t love their dogs as much as I love mine. I mean, they’re so innocent and all they want in life is to make you happy… how can anyone abuse that trust?? I just don’t understand.

I was doing well in my efforts to avoid the Michael Vick story… until today. I read on CNN that not only is he accused of forcing dogs to maul each other, he is also being accused of torturing and killing them. Call me naive but never in a million years did I ever think that someone would purposely electrocute a dog. Hang a dog. Drown a dog. Smash their bodies against the ground until they died. I just can’t understand. I just can’t.

I look at my boys and I see in their big brown eyes that all they want is to know Momma loves them. They just want to hear that they are good boys. That’s it. I just don’t understand how someone could look into those eyes and then be able to take pleasure from their pain. It’s just sick. Michael Vick is a sick, sick man and I hope he rots in hell for what he has done.

This dog was one of FIFTY-TWO dogs taken from Michael Vick’s property. Look at the scars on his sweet little face. This poor baby has had his trust abused. When all he wanted was to be loved and called a good boy, he was forced to fight other dogs. Fight or be killed. He deserved better, poor thing. It just breaks my heart.

What also angers me is that supposedly he’s been doing this for six years. Six. Years. Imagine how many dogs he’s tortured and killed in that time. It’s just overwhelming. And what I want to know is why didn’t someone turn him in sooner? Six years at the same job and no one knew he was involved in dog-fighting?? You have got to be kidding me. People talk. Before I started blogging and had you all to gab to, I talked to my co-workers about my off-time. I find it incredibly difficult to believe that the people he spent most of his time with didn’t know anything about this. I find it incredibly difficult to believe that the Falcon’s management had no idea he was killing animals for fun and profit. Apparently he’s a huge asset to the team so why would anyone there have a conscience and report what he was doing? It makes me sick.

I got this link from Sarah… it’s a form to send a complaint to the NFL. You can also call the NFL PR Department at 212.450.2000 or call the Atlanta Falcons at 770.965.3115. You can also make a donation to help care for the dogs seized from Vick’s property. There is also a call to ask Nike to drop the t-shirt that calls Vick a “Hero”.

Unfortunately, I don’t know of an address or number to contact Nike

. I hope they make the decision to cut their losses and move on to another sports figure who is a better role model for kids.

UPDATE: You can use this form to contact Nike. Please urge them to sever their relationship with Vick and stop selling the Vick “Hero” kid’s t-shirt.

If you want to read the indictment, here’s a link to the PDF. I tried to read it all but it’s just sad. They executed dogs with .22 caliber handguns. They used “rape stands” to force aggressive females to breed. It’s so very sad.

Please follow the links and send letters to the NFL and Nike!  I could not imagine anyone treating Moses like that!  Thanks.
