Ten on Tuesday - 09/20/05

01. My Photos
I can never replace all of my family photos, and they mean the world to me, so they would be the first to go into the truck.

02. My Nikon Cameras
I do not go anywhere without one of my cameras. I have a Nikon N80 and a Nikon D70 - and I love these like they are my children.

03. My Jewelry
I do not have much, but what I do have means a lot to me.

04. My Laptop
It is basically an extension of my body, so it has to come.

05. The Kid’s Baby Stuff
Things like the bibles they got at their baptisms, their christening outfits, etc. All those little momentos that I hang onto for them to have one day.

06. Kaiden’s Tickle Blankee and “Blue”
Kaiden would not be able to live another day without her yellow “tickle” blankee and her blue care bear that she calls “blue.”

07. DVD’s
Mostly to have for the kids on the road to maintain some sort of sanity.

08. My Wedding Dress
Not that I will ever wear it again, but I would like to keep it.

09. The Fire Safe
This contains all our birth records, our marriage certificate, our house info, etc.

10. My Framed Warren Kimble Prints
I have twelve of them and they cost me a damn fortune, so they are coming with us!

What would you grab?

Posted by Curator on 2005-09-23 04:31:24 First and foremost, all my photo albums. That might be all I have time to grab, because I have a ton of them. I actually worry that my house will burn down and all my photos will be lost--you wouldn't believe the crazy steps I've taken to avoid this. I've scanned and saved on CD every single picture I own, which took a loooonnngg time, and I put copies of those CDs and hard copies of some pictures in a fireproof safe. If I had time to grab anything else, I'd take my deceased mom's jewelry and whatever of miscellaneous knicknacks of hers I have sitting around that I can grab. (The jewelry, for the most part, isn't valuable, but was something she loved and I couldn't part with it.) I'm very sentimental about keepsakes, so there's lots more I'd hope to take with me, but at the very least I'd need those things. Oh, and a bottle of wine, if there was one in the wine rack. You might need a glass of red at a time like that.

Posted by David on 2005-09-21 09:13:37 My children each have their "silkies" (a color coded blanket they got when they were born, pink for the girl, blue for the boy, and yellow for the baby girl). I also have all of my pictures, scrapbooks, journals, fire proof safe, etc. in the hall closet...if ever the need arises, start unpacking that closet first!! and yes, I'd grab my damn dog too. (can't live with her, can't live without her!) Oh, and my pound puppy that I've had since I was three. Other than that, it's a free for all, and I'll give each of my kids five minutes to loot the house for whatever they can grab. seems fair, right?

One thing i do that you may want to consider- I use shutterfly to send my fav pictures every month to my grandma. That way she gets to see the kids monthly and she puts every picture into albums labled "Jonas" and "Maggie", when she dies, i get them all back and they are all together and safe. I figure that if the house burns down with all my photos in it- gramma has all of my favs. I call it my monthly fire insurance.

I'd grab for my wedding dress too but it's safely in the arms of my Mom. :-) 1. My Shoes: I hate to be barefoot! LOL Plus I could probably run better with them on if I had to. 2. My dog and cat: Unbelievable but some people wouldn't even put the on their list. Leave them behind! Yikes! 3. My wedding ring: I have a lot of jewelery but you can't ever replace that. 4. My Photos: I agree... those are irreplaceable! 5. My mp3 player: to keep my sanity. 6. My cd's: to keep my sanity! lol 7. My computer: OMG, that's my life! 8. The important document file organizer: yeap... brith certificates, marriage certificate, etc. Yeap. Definitely. 9. Box of food: to hold us off till we get to our next destination. 10. A blanket and pillow: I got my favorite ones! lol

I'm going to need it to drown my sorrows after I lose eveyrthing I own to flooding. By the way, would you like to go to a Peace rally at 7:00 tonight ? I think it'd be a great thing to take the kids to...call me if you're up for it? It's at Town Point Park

I have an almost 2 hun year old armoire that I'd probably try to carry out with my bare hands. Me trying to evacuate would be a sight to see!
