The Final Countdown

This morning on my way in to work, I chatted on the phone with Nadine, like I do every morning… only this morning, right when she said hello, I immediately started singing this song as loud as I could in her ear… “It’s the FINAL COUNTDOWN…” - to which she immediately joined in without skipping a beat “da na na na… da na na na na…”  The reason for the final countdown?  Tomorrow is the St. Paddy’s Day Drinkfest that we work hard all year to prepare our livers for.  It is finally upon us!  You remember last year, right?  How could you forget this:

Which ended in victory for Nadine here:

Unfortunately for poor Nadine… her tea remedy that we discussed on Monday did not work for her and today her Aunt Flow has come for a visit.  SHE IS NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS AT ALL.  She DOES NOT WANT to deal with that and Porta Potties!!!  To make her feel better about it, I emailed her this when I got into work this morning:

FREAKING HILARIOUS.  I was laughing my ass off.

Tonight, I plan on cleaning my house from top to bottom, getting as much laundry done as I can and getting whatever else done I need to get done, so that I can drink all day tomorrow and be a hungover slug on Sunday and not have to worry about anything!  Hooray for St. Paddy’s Day in Ocean View!!!

Hip Bursuckus

image

I think I have hip bursitis in my right hip.  I have had horrible pain in my hip on and off since last summer.  Some weeks it is really bad and some weeks it is non-existent.

Bursitis is caused by inflammation of a bursa, a small jelly-like sac that usually contains a small amount of fluid. Bursae are located throughout the body, most importantly around the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and heel. They act as cushions between bones and the overlying soft tissues, and help reduce friction between the gliding muscles and the bone. The main symptom of hip bursitis is pain at the point of the hip. The pain usually extends to the outside of the thigh area. In the early stages, the pain is usually described as sharp and intense. Later, it may feel more achy and spread out.

I am going to the doctor in a little while to have it checked out.  I have avoided going to the doctor since last summer because I do not want to hear him say I have to not run on it.  I am hoping he will give me some steroids or something to bring down the swelling and I will be on my way.  REALLY hoping that I don’t need a cortisone shot or some type of draining procedure that involves big needles, etc.  It better not effect my run this evening.  Hate this.

PS - I am choosing to believe this is 100% activity related and has nothing to do with age and no one can tell me different!!!  *puts fingers in ears and starts repeating la la la la*

PPS - The above picture is an actual rendering of my butt.  Just thought you should know that.

Conversations with Nadine…

Interesting conversation with Nadine this weekend:

Nadine: So I am SO SO excited for our St. Paddy’s Day drinkfest… only a week away now!!!

Misty: I am too.  It is going to be SO MUCH FUN!!!  SO.MUCH.FUN!

Nadine: You are going to die when I tell you what I have been drinking all day.

Misty: OH GOD… you’re not sipping colonoscopy laxatives again like it’s a glass of Courvoisier and “cleansing” yourself are you?

Nadine: HAHA - NO.  I am supposed to be on my period for St. Paddy’s… I am SO freaking upset about that.  Drinking all day + Porta Potties + your period is just NOT going to work for me.

Misty: *starting to laugh*

Nadine: SO… I did a little googling and apparently making a tea with parsley can induce your period… so I am trying to get it started early, so that I am done by next weekend.  Big Kev has been steeping me parsley tea.  It’s supposed to relax your cervix or uterus or something.  It’s freaking disgusting, but I’m desperate.  I have been adding honey to it but it is not helping much.

Misty: *laughing hysterically now* ARE YOU KIDDING ME NADINE?  WHO DOES THIS STUFF?  SERIOUSLY????  OMG I am cracking up.  You know you are going on the blog again…

Everyone NEEDS a Nadine in their lives.  Seriously.

Billy’s 2011 Birthday Card & Letters from Aunt Kelly

As I have mentioned in the past (here and here), every year, the best part of your birthday is getting my brother Billy’s Birthday card.  This birthday was no exception… so without further ado, I present Billy’s 2011 Birthday Card to me:

Unrelated to my Birthday card from Billy, but related to notes in general from family members, Kaiden has not paid her Aunt Kelly the $5 that she owes her for their Super Bowl bet yet, and she received a note in the mailbox the other day from her Aunt Kelly in Florida reminding her of that fact…. and of course, because Aunt Kelly can NEVER let Ashton feel left out, he too had an addressed and stamped envelope with a note from Aunt Kelly:

And just to make sure that Kaiden did not think that the “K” on the stationary stood for “Kaiden,”  Kelly made sure to clarify that it stands for “Kelly Rules!”

The Big 3-5

So this past Sunday was my birthday.  I am now officially half way through my 30’s, and I have to say, I am not feeling so bad about it.  I had a great birthday.  On the Friday before my birthday my co-worker Bill spoiled me rotten, since he would not see me over the weekend.

First he had flowers delivered to me at work, which were adorable and made me very happy!

Then he gave me a goodie bag filled with all my favorite snacks - Mike and Ike’s, Skittles, Lindt Dark Chocolate, Teriyaki Beef Jerky and Pistachios.  Then he also included some funny joke items, like fresh batteries for my “toys,” Serenity Bladder Control Pads since I am getting so old now and may not be able to make it to the bathroom and some good chapstick, since my lips are ALWAYS chapped from running this winter.  It was awesome!  He is a great co-worker!

Saturday night Todd and the kids took me out for my favorite dinner… Japanese Steak House.  They got me some great gift cards for pedicures and to stock my Kindle with some new books.  Then after dinner, I met Dena, my brother, Nadine and Kevin and Ashton’s girlfriend Heidi among others for some birthday cocktails.  Dena got me an awesome sand repelling beach towel for this summer and a cooler bag for the beach - LOVED that she got me that stuff, it made me happy for warmer weather!  Nadine and Kev got me a buttload of Lottery Tickets, Heidi brought me flowers and my brother had his yearly birthday card for me.  I forgot to bring that in to scan - I’ll have to do that tomorrow.

We met up at our local dive, Judy’s Pub, that we always go to and I was surprised when I walked in and the whole bar was decorated for my birthday.  It was awesome, although I am not quite sure yet whether that should be considered a good or a bad thing.  Good that I am liked enough for them to do it, or bad that I am known well enough in there for them to do it?  I am going with good!

Sunday night I celebrated with my family by having a delicious marinated Filet Mignon dinner followed by my mom and Kaiden’s attempt at making cake pops.  It was a great evening.

It was a great birthday weekend and I am blessed with great friends and family!
