Weekly Roundup 06/26/05-07/02/05

What a week!  Ashton has been sick, running a fever since Monday night.  It started with the fever and then turned into a chest cold.  So, we have been home all week.  We went to the doctor on Thursday and the doctor did not want to put him on antibiotics.  She said that because he was on antibiotics his whole first year, his body doesn’t know how to fight on it’s own - therefore, we are waiting this one out, at home, with no help from daddy (who’s job is apparently more important than mine, thus he cannot take time off to help, because its okay if I lose my job) - blah.

Kaiden has been at Vacation Bible School this whole week with her best buddies, Kevin and Brianna.  I need to thank Nadine for all her help with Kaiden, while I was dealing with Ashton (not like she had a choice, Kaiden through a shit fit in the church so she could go with her Dee Dee).  She really enjoyed it, and has been asking everyone all week if they have Jesus in their heart and telling us we need to forgive, because God does.  You see, we have to send her to these things, because she does not get any moral lessons at home!!!  They had a big program today, followed by a luncheon.  It was cute!  Kaiden’s class was the “Zebra’s” for the Noah’s Ark theme.

Both kids will be starting their new daycare/school on Tuesday - WAVE Children’s Learning Center.  This place is great, they have a Montessori program, an indoor gym/playground and cameras in the classrooms so that we can view them during the day via the web with a password.  She gets to go with her friend Ethan, my friend Dena’s son.

Well that’s this week in a nutshell, hope everyone has a wonderful 4th of July weekend!!!

Aloha Friday - 07/01/05

Aloha Friday is brought to you by the letter A and by Snarky!

What temperature does it need to be outside before you consider it ?hot??

85F and I say that because I live in Virginia Beach and there is ALWAYS humidity involved, so 85F feels like 385F!  I like spring and fall!

If you could pick a TV show character to be your best friend (no reality shows, please), who would you pick and why?

I would pick Karen and Jack from Will and Grace.  Because who couldn’t use a drink and a laugh on a

daily

hourly basis!

Spread the spirit of aloha?whom should we visit this week?

Go over and visit MommaK at Petroville.  She is a GREAT read and I am pretty sure she is a fellow Virginian!  Please excuse her site, it may be acting crazy - she is having some hosting issues - but she is still a great read!

It’s Never Boring at the Beach…Story #1

Every year, thousands (not exagerating) of foreign workers come to Virginia Beach to try to find jobs for the summer.  They come on the promise of work and the knowledge that they can make more here in a summer than they could make at home in a year.  They have no car, no family and no place to stay.  They are from Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania - the list goes on and on.  They usually end up walking up and down the street begging for a place to stay for the summer.

Yesterday, when my husband got home from work, he was pulling up the trash cans from the street and was approached by (2) of them.  They were dressed in very skimpy clothes and had on bright red lipstick that was not at all within the perimeter of their lips, apparently these girls are not taught how to color in the lines growing up.

They asked my husband if we had a room for rent.  He told them sorry, but we did not.  Then one of them stepped uncomfortably close to him and said “We perform favors for room to stay.”  He backed up one step and said he was sorry, but no and came into the house.  WTF?  I cannot believe that they are now walking up and down the streets offering blow jobs for a place to stay.  I told Todd he should of said yes, cause he ain’t gettin that shit from me and to ask them if they babysit!

It’s Never Boring at the Beach…Story #2

There is this homeless woman that has been around this area for a long time.  You can usually see her riding a bike with a ton of bags all over it.  She rides around begging for money.  In the summer, she trades in her bike for a wheelchair, so she can really milk the tourists for some money by playing the sympathy card - but the locals know better.

Now this lady is really creepy looking.  She is little and very weathered looking.  She has stringy shoulder length grey/blond hair.  But the worst thing about her is her little tag line.  She goes by you and waits until after you pass her then turns her head cock-eyed at you and says “dolla for a travela?” in a very scratchy voice.  When she says it, it will send chills up your spine!

Dena and I usually see her on our walks at night and when she says it to us, we say “Your not a travela, you have to actually leave once in a while to be a travela!” - then we run like hell!

Every place has weirdos, what are yours like?

Blogging in Virginia

I have noticed that quite a few of the bloggers I enjoy reading are from Virginia.  So I made a cute little button so that we can spot each other.  Its based on the oh so famous Virginia is for Lovers slogan.  So, right click on it and save it so you can put it up on your site.  I could probably start a ring or something, but that just seems like work!
